At around 5:00 o’clock they started arriving, one then two, then four more, almost like popcorn popping. Of course, the set up team and the caterer had been working since 3:00 and the gracious hosts, Jill and Carlos Casuso and their sons since earlier in the day, moving the grass and cleaning the pool and re-arranging the furniture.

It all starts with a simple glass of wine, red or white and hellos’ to old friends not seen for months and then gradually there a dozen and then thirty and finally, about sixty…all told.

And the buffet, Suzanne Floyd’s finest effort, boiled shrimp, asparagus wrapped with prosciutto, multiple cheeses, humus, crackers..one patron said excitedly…”This is a lot of food!” and more wine.

Then, at the appointed time, the guests make their way to a living room packed with sofa, dining room chairs and white plastic garden chairs and folding chairs for the Main Event…tonight’s performers are the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, Jazz All-stars. With a brief introduction, they’re off…bass, string bass and piano.
